Star-gazing at home. Great!
As a company involved in processing plastics, our customer Ubbink
(Netherlands) enjoys a worldwide reputation in the roof conversion
business. Whether hatch skylights, dormer or roof windows, with
Ubbink every home owner can gaze directly at the stars through their
roofs. And now in an even more innovative way with the designer roof
window “PARIS”.
The packaging dimensions for this window are imposing: over one
metre long, approx. 80 cm wide and 30 cm high.
Truly a challenge!
Not only that, as end customers buy the innovative product directly
from retailers, the outer packaging obviously needs to actively
promote sales.
Although a reasonable handling capability - given the size and
weight - and secure fastening of the product were important factors,
the bill of specifications placed yet greater emphasis on the visual
print finish.
The photo-realistic depiction of people in a target environment, the
product details and the illustrated assembly instructions needed to
provide effective sales support at retail outlets. |

The development team at Fritz Peters,
led by Claudio Florit (head of the development department)
and Manfred Gaebel (technical sales), came up with an
impressive solution for the job:
- A two-part, slip-lid box combines easy handling with
a large-format display surface (photos, text, visual
impact). The EB corrugated card quality was used to
ensure proper protection for the product. The white
outer cover provides the ideal surface for direct
flexographic printing.
- A flexographic printing process in six colours (five
inks plus lacquer) and the technical equipment available
in the Fritz Peters Group enabled untrimmed sheets sized
1509 x 1724 mm to be printed in a single production run.
The result is certainly an impressive demonstration of
the outstanding opportunities offered by high-quality
flexographic printing on an extreme specimen.
- The specially-made interior fittings reliably secure
the “PARIS” designer roof window along with its
accessories. This was also shown by a test drive to
Spain in a truck which was completed without problem.

Today, the demand on the Dutch market for Ubbink's “PARIS”
product with its unusual “maxi-packaging” is growing steadily. And
not lastly for that reason, this solution to a large-scale packaging
problem has been entered for a design competition in the Netherlands.
